DA Finger Points to Voter Fraud
A Mexican immigration group allegedly helped more than 200 non-citizens register to vote, according to a new document just revealed by the Orange County District Attorney's Office. The document alleges that Hermandad Mexicana Nacional helped 227 non-citizens register to vote in the November, 1996, election. In that election, Democrat Loretta Sanchez narrowly edged out incumbent Republican congressman Robert Dornan. The allegations spurred a D.A. sweep of Hermandad's offices on January 14. An investigator with the D.A.'s office says he believes the search will find that Hermandad employees committed felony violations of the election code. A spokesman for the D.A.'s office declined to say what the search uncovered. The investigation is continuing.
