The man with two names, Calvert DeForest and
Larry 'Bud' Melman, are one and the same. The
nationally known pitchman and co-star to David
Letterman has been called "one of the wittiest and
funniest characters today." His face and laugh are
loved by millions of fans.
Discovered by David Letterman in 1982, Calvert,
looks back at the surprise call with fondness. "One
day I get a phone call from Dave's production
office to come up and meet Dave. I thought it was a
joke, but Letterman persisted." DeForest states.
Dave sent a messenger with a script and finally
sent a limo over to pick him up and get him to the
studio on time. That very night, Dave put him in
front of the cameras and Calvert stepped into
history opening the first "Late Night" show in
September '82.
